Guajira and Alta Guajira

Starting in Riohacha crossing all the Guajira peninsula and its Wayuu community, where they will be our hosts, that way we can taste all their food in the mountain range (sierra): (goat), chicken and on the coast only seafood with their famous shrimp and lobster rice; getting to know about their ingredients and their uses in the Wayuu cooking.

ITINERARY

– Welcoming in Riohacha and departure to Camarones where the fauna and flora sanctuary is located and you can see the pink flamingoes, over there you can lunch the famous guajiran shrimp rice with fried fish and plantain.

 

– Afterwards enjoy a canoe ride to watch the flamingoes and then continue to Wayuu Rancheria to taste their liqueur (chirrinchi) mixed with iguaraya (cactus’s fruit), on a delicious cocktail.

 

– Dinner: The friche goat. We will watch their dances and we will interact with the Wayuus and their culture.

 

– Departure to Uribia to get accommodation at the hotel.

– Breakfast in the hotel: guajiran arepa, eggs, coffee or juice.

 

– Starting of the journey to Nazareth passing through Pusheo or the road store and lunch at the Makuira Serrania where you can visit the national natural park Makuira and do a hike.

 

– At night enjoy the warm welcome at a Wayuu family house and spend the night in Wayuu typical chinchorros.

 

– For dinner enjoy delicious charcoaled grilled chicken.

– Breakfast and departure to Puerto Estrella. Visit the Dune of the Ducks and hike.

 

– Lunch, fish stew prepared by a Wayuu family, continuing towards Punta Gallinas passing through the Taroa Dunes, hike and sea bath.

 

– Dinner: Typical apalanchi (fishermen) lobster salad.

 

– Accommodation in Punta Gallina’s Wayuu Hostel with private bed and bathroom.

– Breakfast: Mix of assorted fish. It is a shredded fish with onion, tomato and cilantro.

 

– Departure to The Lighthouse, the most northern point in Colombia (optional boat ride) Punta Aguja beach.

 

– Lunch: full lobster cut in half with garlic or natural.

 

– Free afternoon for resting.

 

– Dinner: red snapper fried or boiled accompanied with plantain.

 

– Acommodation in Wayuu Hostel with private bed and bathroom.

– Breakfast: Ray salmagundi with onion, tomato and cilantro or eggs and coffee.

 

– Departure to el Cabo de la Vela to visit the Sugar Pylon beach.

 

– Lunch: Mojarra or Snook with plantain.

 

– Short hike to The Lighthouse and sunset at Water Eye beach.

 

– Dinner: fish soup or fried fish, red snapper, mojarra, snook,or lobster.

 

– Acommodation in Wayuu Hostel with private bed and bathroom.

– Breakfast: Mix of assorted fish, arepa and coffee.

 

– Departure to Manaure salt mines to arrive at 11:00 to Riohacha’s airport.
