GASTRONOMIC ROUTE

Starting in Rioacha crossing all the Guajira peninsula and its Wayuu community, where they will be our hosts, that way we can taste all their food in the mountain range (sierra?): (goat), chicken and on the coast only seafood with their famous shrimp and lobster rice; getting to know about their ingredients and their uses in the Wayuu cooking.

Itinerary

DAY 1

  • Welcoming in Riohacha.
  • Departure to Camarones where the fauna and flora sanctuary is located; the pink flamingos.
  • Lunch: the famous guajiran Shrimp rice with fried fish and plantain .
  • Canoe ride to watch the flamingos.
  • Rancheria Wayuu to taste their liqueur (chirrinchi) mixed with iguaraya (cactus’s fruit).
  • Dinner: The friche goat. We will watch their dances and we will interact with the Wayuus and their culture.
  • Departure to Uribia to accommodate ourselves at the hotel.

DAY 2

  • Breakfast in the hotel: arepa, eggs, coffee or juice.
  • Journey to Nazareth in the mountains of Macuira.
  • Visit the national natural park Macuira.
  • Hike.
  • Lunch: Goat stew with salad and plantain.
  • Dinner: Charcoaled grilled chicken
  • We will stay at a Wayuu family house to spend the night in Wayuu typical chinchorros.

DAY 3

  • Breakfast.
  • Departure to guajiran desert.
  • Hike.
  • Lunch: Fish stew prepared by a Wayuu family.
  • Punta Gallinas crossing the Taroa dune.
  • Dinner: Typical apalanchi (fishermen) lobster salad.
  • Accommodation in Punta Gallina’s Wayuu Hostel with private bed and bathroom.

DAY 4

  • Breakfast: Mix of assorted fish. It is a shredded fish with onion, tomato and cilantro.
  • Departure to The Lighthouse, the most northern point in Colombia (optional boat ride) Punta Aguja beach.
  • Lunch: full lobster cut in half with garlic or natural.
  • Free afternoon for resting.
  • Dinner: red snapper fried or boiled accompanied with plantain.
  • Acommodation in Wayúu Hostel with private bed and bathroom.

DAY 5

  • Breakfast: Ray salmagundi with onion, tomato and cilantro or eggs and coffee.
  • Departure to el Cabo de la Vela to visit the Pilon de Azucar beach.
  • Lunch: Mojarra or Snook with plantain.
  • Sunset at The Lighthouse and Ojo de Agua.
  • Dinner: fish soup or fried fish, red snapper, mojarra, snook,or lobster.
  • Acommodation in Wayúu Hostel with private bed and bathroom.

DAY 6

  • Breakfast: Mix of assorted fish
  • Departure to Manaure salt mines.
  • Arrival to the airport.
